Sailing Away from NYC!

I hope everyone has had an amazing start to 2018! As you can probably tell from my lack of posts, it has been a busy beginning of the year. However, I am back and ready to go! Let’s rewind to October and relive all of Krista and my adventures from our Disney Magic Cruise!

Monday October 2nd, 2017

On the morning of October 2nd, we had a few hours before boarding the ship. We began our day at Blue Dog Café where we got some delicious croissant breakfast sandwiches with egg whites, avocado, and bacon. It was the perfect fuel to get us started on our big day!

We loved this cafe. It was very quaint and tastefully decorated, and on top of that the food was delicious! I’m so glad we had the chance to check it out.

We ubered down to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal and we saw the beautiful Disney Magic docked and ready for us to board!

When we walked onboard I instantly felt at home. It was such a calming, welcoming, and blissful feeling to be back on the ship. I was so excited and so ready for this cruise.

The whole atrium was all decked out for Halloween On the High Seas! It was my first time ever seeing any Disney Cruise Line holiday decor. There were pumpkins and spooky decorations everywhere and it was adorable!

My favorite moment of this trip was when we walked around the ship and simply absorbed the fact that we were docked in the middle of New York City. Buildings and the beautiful ocean surrounded us. It felt absolutely unreal. As we began to sail away, we could see the Empire State building and, from our balcony, we saw the Statue of Liberty during the sunset. It was so surreal.

The Sailing Away party began, we got our “Bon Voyage” drinks, and watched Mickey and his friends welcome us to the ship!

That night we saw Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on a Cinderella Story. We were 3rd row center, adored Lady Tremaine’s voice, dresses, and purple contour, and pretty much cried over Cinderella’s song about believing in herself. It was the perfect kickoff show for our cruise!

Our dinner that night was at Lumiere’s. The famous quote from that night was:

Krista: “Remember that time we accidentally ordered four desserts?”

Me: “No, that was not an accident.”

And trust me, that only became a pattern for the rest of the trip!

Pictured here we have:

  • Iced Lobster and Jumbo Shrimp
  • Potato Leek Soup
  • Chateaubrained-Roasted Filet Steak
  • Conchiglie Pasta
  • Classic Opera Gateau
  • Tahitian Vanilla Creme Brulee
  • Apple Tart Tartin

We spent the rest of the night at Fathoms, the adult-only nightclub on board, and we watched the shows that were run by our absolute favorite entertainment host – David! He was on the ship back in January when we sailed, so we were ecstatic to be on another cruise with him!

Tuesday October 3rd, 2017

On the first full day of the cruise we took it really easy. By that I mean we woke up, ate breakfast, went to the spa, wandered around the ship, and took a three hour nap. Now that’s how you vacation.

Once we finally got ourselves together, we went down to the atrium and soaked in the Halloween decor! The Spooky Tree is my favorite tree.

Also, one of the strangest parts about cruising during the cooler months of the year is that instead of running around in a bathing suit and shorts, you’re bundled up drinking hot chocolate on deck. I sort of love it.

That night was Pirate Night! Our dinner was at Animator’s Palette and I was so glad it was. The music was completely themed and all of the screens were flipping through sketches from Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, and Treasure Planet.

The entire crew was dressed up in Pirate costumes, was full of energy, and they had a big limbo celebration! Just when I thought Animator’s Palette couldn’t get any better… it did.

Pictured here we have:

  • Sri Sumbhajee’s Vegetable Samosa
  • Davy Jones’ Locker Rock Crab Cake
  • Jack’s Treasure of the Seas
  • Caramel Macadamia Nut Cheesecake
  • Bounty Fruit Cobbler
  • Bananas in Paradise
  • Rum Soaked Chocolate Cake

After dinner, we got to meet Pirate Minnie in the atrium! Just look at how cute her outfit is!! I also saw one of my greatest friends from work, Shannon, who happened to be on the same cruise as us!

As the night went on, we were sailing more and more north. In the morning it would be time to get off the ship and go explore! Stay tuned to see where we will be heading next!
